ABOUT The MC Challenge

The Rap Battle is a revolutionary concept born at the foundation of Hip Hop culture as a way to settle disputes through healthy competition, not violence. Over decades of development, battling has become an incredible skill, but requires you to rip down your opponent with insults to win.

The EOW MC Challenge offers an alternative to battling founded on empowering community, pushing each challenger to advance their skills while building up everyone involved, all while maintaining the competitive edge.

The EOW MC Challenge consists of 5 rounds, testing the core skills it takes to call yourself a true emcee.

  • Written; perform your best original written track

  • Acapella; show your substance with a spoken word piece

  • Grab Bag; freestyle while pulling items out the grab bag

  • DJ vs MC; rap over any genre or style the DJ throws at you

  • Cypher; 4 bars back to back with the other competitors

MC Challenge 2023

"Challenge of Champions"

Our last EOW England MC Challenge was the 2023 'Challenge of Champions' at 02 Academy Islington2. EOW World Champion Rob Bradley (formerly Jack Flash), 3x EOW England Champion Gee Bag and EOW Champions Dekay and Menace Mendoza competed to represent England in the EOW World Final 2023 in New York. The champs were joined by Sir Don Rattray, after the crowd chose him over Watusi87 and J Dart in the final of the Online Wildcard Challenge.

A night truly fitting for the yearlong celebration of Hip Hop cultures 50th year, the MC Challenge was judged by homegrown Hip Hop royalty Jonzi D, Sarah Love & MysDiggi, who also performed live alongside heavyweights Dabbla, Illaman & Dubbledge (Problem Child), SANITY, Mas Law and Apex Zero, with legendary DJs Jazz T and Snuff holding down the decks.

After a fierce competition, it was Camden's own Dekay who took the title, becoming 2x EOW England Champion. She went on to place 2nd on the the EOW World Final, behind only USA's Dizzy Senze. The sister's made history, marking the first time 2 women have taken both the top spots.
